Stage One

Victoria Enbankment will be closed in both directions, as will Upper Thames Street, Lower Thames Street and Byward Street to Tower Hill. This closure includes the cycle super highway between Blackfriars Bridge and Tower Bridge.

Those north of the closure wishing to head south can do so by crossing the river at Westminster Bridge. Alternatively, access across the river is possible by travelling along the A13 and using the Rotherhithe Tunnel or London Bridge.

Under marshal control local traffic can cross over Southwark Bridge from the south, heading northwards to gain access westbound along Upper Thames Street as far as High Timber Street only.

Stage Two

05:00 – 12:30 Victoria Embankment, Upper and Lower Thames Street, Byward Street and the Eastbound carriageway of East Smithfields are closed. No access north or s outh along these sections of road will be possible during this time. Tower Bridge can only be accessed from the south for closed between Blackfriars Bridge and Tower Bridge. local traffic only. The cycle super highway will also be closed between Blackfriars Bridge and Tower Bridge.

05:00 – 14:00 The Highway will be closed in both directions from Vaughan Way to the Limehouse Link Tunnel. Aspen Way will also be closed.

Those north of the closure wishing to head south of the river should travel along the A13 and use the Rotherhithe Tunnel or London Bridge.

The one way direction of these roads will be suspended. Access and exit will be available from Cable Street and Royal Mint Street.

Access Vehicles can only access the above areas during this time by travelling north over Tower Bridge. At Tower Hill traffic will be directed right along East Smithfield’s to Vaughan Way. Egress Vehicles leaving the areas listed above should travel via Vaughan Way and East Smithfield and follow directions south over Tower Bridge. From here routes north of the river are possible via either London Bridge or the Rotherhithe Tunnel.

Access From 12 noon the roads to the West of Vaughan Way will reopen. Vehicles will need to follow the signed diversion from Tower Hill around the Minories to Dock Street, crossing straight over the Highway into Vaughan Way. Egress From Vaughan Way vehicles can use either East Smithfield or Dock Street.

Under marshal control access is provided along the Highway between Glamis Road and Jardine Road. To access Jardine Road vehicles must do so from Wapping and Shadwell (see the access and egress details above). If your journey involves travelling north you may wish to consider parking on the north side of the Highway or in the Narrow Street area prior to the road closure to avoid the detour over Tower Bridge.

Stage Three

The cycle course operates between Westminster and Royal Albert Roundabout (at Stansfeld Road) as detailed in red on the map above. This involves closing The Highway, Limehouse Link Tunnel, Aspen Way and Lower Lea Crossing. This closure includes the cycle super highway between Blackfriars Bridge and Tower Bridge.

Those north of the closure, wishing to head south of the river should travel along the A13 and use the Rotherhithe Tunnel or London Bridge.

Access and egress is possible from the A13 to Canary Wharf and the Isle of Dogs by either Cotton Street and Prestons Road/Trafalgar Way or West India Dock Road and Westferry Road. The roads around the Limehouse Basin are accessible throughout the closures.

The Lower Lea Crossing, Seagull Lane, Sandstone Lane and Royal Albert Way will be closed. If your journey takes you along these roads please seek an alternative route via A13 and A406 or Silvertown Way and North Greenwich. One lane will be open in both directions between Leamouth Road Roundabout and Orchard Place to allow access for the Wharfs on the south side of the river.

Jamestown Way, Newport Avenue, Blackwall Way, John Smith Mews, Pilgrim Mews, Orchard Place Access A one way access will be in place from East India Dock Road. The diversion will take traffic down Leamouth Road, along Orchard Place, under the Lower Lea Crossing, back to Leamouth Road Roundabout to Newport Avenue. This is for local access only. Please be advised that this diversion will not allow access to the Highway. Egress A one way egress diversion will be in place from Newport Avenue along Aspen Way to Preston’s Road Roundabout.
