GLOVES NOT GUNZ TO TAKE ON THE 2019 LONDON TRIATHLON
We’re delighted to announce that for the 2019 London Triathlon we will be joined on the start line by athletes, trainers and young people from Gloves Not Gunz; a youth based organisation that offers free sporting initiatives to young people aged between 7 & 19 who are at risk of youth and gang violence.
Gloves not Gunz specialise in early intervention work and are based in Croydon in schools, community centres and out of their own Boxing Gym. They are currently running satellite sessions in crime hotspots within Croydon to engage young people into positive sporting activities and mentoring programmes. For 2019, Gloves not Gunz will be sending a team of young people to compete in the 2019 London Triathlon, some of whom will be competing individually while others compete in relay teams alongside the Gloves not Gunz founders, Adam & Ben.
This great initiative is being supported by Shower in a Can. Shower in a Can was created after founders Ben & Stuart read that young people, especially girls, aren’t getting involved in sport due to the fact that they either can’t shower afterwards due to a lack of facilities, or don’t want to shower in front of their peers. Ben & Stuart are extremely passionate about breaking down the barriers to sport participation, particularly with young people, and are strong believers that activity not only improves physical health but also helps mental well-being.
Shower in a Can will be kindly supporting the Gloves not Gunz team throughout their London Triathlon training.
Adam from Gloves not Gunz said: “We are incredibly proud and excited to be involved in this great initiative for the 2019 London Triathlon. Being supported by a great company in ‘Shower in a Can’ shows what cohesive partnership work is all about and will allow young people that wouldn’t usually have access to such a prestigious event to enjoy it and take part. Being part of this fun-fuelled sporting weekend also highlights what the power of sport can do for bridging communities and perceived social stereotypes. Our wonderful team will be a postcard for diversity & inclusion at the event and we hope to meet as many spectators as possible”
Ben from Shower in a Can said: “We’re really proud to be supporting Gloves not Gunz. Our aims of getting more young people into sport and focussing on positive activities are closely aligned, and we’re really pleased to be part of the team!”
All 2019 London Triathlon participants will have an opportunity to try and buy Shower in a Can both pre-event and on event day. For every can bought by 2019 London Triathlon participants and spectators, £1 will go directly to supporting the Gloves Not Gunz programme. Can you get clean and fresh after your London Triathlon 2019 race? Yes, you Can!
